VCOM Reps Pick Up Two Wins In D.C.
A side of players representing Blacksburg Rugby's members from the Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) traveled to the nation's capitol for a pair of abbreviated trial matches and returned home with a pair of wins.
In preparation for the Spring 2011 "Osteopath Cup" event, Blacksburg's large contingent of ostepathic students and a few other student members of Blacksburg's roster scheduled a pair of shortened-length fixtures against sides from Georgetown University's law school and George Washington University's undergraduate reserves. The VCOM players were hard pressed by the Georgetown opposition, battling to a draw through full time before an extra-time try from all-rounder back Gaelen Horne secured a 19-14 victory. The narrow win provided momentum for the VCOM side going into the second of the shortened matches, allowing the medical students to put together a less dramatic 26-7 victory over the George Washington University reserves.
The friendly matches mark the end of Blacksburg Rugby match schedule for 2010. Light offseason training will continue for the remainder of the year (see Blacksburgrugby.com for each week's training schedule), while some indoor training sessions will commence in January in preparation for the Spring 2010 season.
