Messy Win For Blacksburg At Blackwater
Blacksburg managed to get by the Blackwater Rugby Club in Lynchburg, VA, to earn a 2-0 record in the Fall 2010 Virginia Rugby Union Senior Men's Division III competition, but it was choppy going for the travelers.
Three tries to one was the final count, but the final margin was only 17-7 and Blacksburg held a slim five-point lead at one point far into the contest. Blacksburg picked up a 12-0 lead in the first half from two tries in the first half and one conversion, but the visiting club stuttered later in the match and managed only one unconverted try in the second half while leaking a converted try to the hosts.
Despite the win, Blacksburg will be looking to flatten out some rough spots before a long road fixture against Newport News next week.
In an abbreviated reserves match, Blacksburg's Developmental side showed more verve to earn a 12-0 win.
Blacksburg thanks Blackwater for hosting the match and is indebted to referee Ian Ray for another terrific week as the man in the middle.
