Intrasquad Action Keeps Blacksburg Busy During Mid-Season Break
Blacksburg may not have another formal competitive match until after the New Year, but the club isn't spending the winter break idle. Today marked one of several intrasquad events to be played during the idel period leading up to the Spring 2010 schedule.
Today's intrasquad session, played at Blacksburg's "Rose Garden" match ground, featured 10-a-side variation matches as part of a transition from the Fall 2009 season and the upcoming James River Christmas Sevens tournament. Developing Blacksburg players, including a large contingent of students from the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine, made up a substantial portion of the players who made themselves available for the intrasquad event.
Although the intrasquad matches were friendly and formally unscored, play was lively and intense. It is hoped that such enthusiasm will continue through the midseason break as Blacksburg maintains an active slate of offseason training and intrasquad scrimmage sessions. Players and supporters are asked to keep an eye on the BlacksburgRugby.com site to keep up with the schedule of events because it will be influenced by shortened days and cooler weather in the months to come.
