Blacksburg Earns Territorial Semifinal Berth

Blacksburg's season has been extended by a week with a 32-22 road win over Western Suburbs in a Mid-Atlantic Rugby Football Union territorial knockout quarterfinal, but the going wasn't easy. Although Blacksburg struck first through an unconverted try by wing Scott Tison, Western Suburbs led by as many as nine points early in the second half. The rest of the match was all Blacksburg, though, with the visitors notching the final 19 points of the match to overtake Western Suburbs and cruise to safety. Among strong performances was a man-of-the-match outing from loose forward Nate Gaertner, who scored a try and was sound in attack and defense throughout.

Blacksburg will now meet top-seeded Old Gaelic in the territorial semifinal rounds at Roanoke next Saturday, followed by either a grand final or consolation final appearance Sunday depends on Saturday's result.
