Dan River Visits for Friendly Match
As Blacksburg's readies for its Virginia Rugby Union fixtures, Dan River agreed to come up for a friendy match. As Dan River was unable to field a full side for the full trip, Blacksburg was able to get a few players in onthe Dan River side, and Dan River also graciously agreed to allow liberal substitutions in the friendly.
Blacksburg is extremely grateful to Dan River for taking a long trip to play in the friendly match, and doubly so for allowing some Blacksburg players a chance to get a run with their side, including outside backs Jeff Drake, Paul Pilone, and Russell Modlin, and forwards Joe O'Brien, Daniel Steeneck, and Ty Hopkins.
Two men of the match were named for Blacksburg. One was wing Noah Thrope, who had a great performance for Blacksburg that included a brace of tries scored through determined work on the blind side, and the other was Jeff Drake, who had a standout performance stepping in as Dan River's custodian.
Blacksburg now enjoys a week off before hosting Virginia on 27 September.
